The 10th person to hold the office, Berman's major changes to the college significantly enhanced its standing. A Purchase, New York, school, Manhattanville College bolstered its graduate programs in business, the arts, and education. Acknowledging the importance of the student, Richard Berman focused on enabling attendees to achieve their best by upgrading to state-of-the-art facilities. As President of Manhattanville College, Berman improved its technology, created more and varied classes, and bettered its sports teams, which led to a higher enrollment of both national and international students. The campus also built the Connie Hogarth Center for Social Action, the Ohnell Environmental Park, and The Richard A. Berman Student Center. During Richard Berman's nearly 15 years in the position, Manhattanville College raised its students’ average GPA, and its undergraduate applications increased from 300 annually to 4,500. Additionally, the number of full-time faculty members more than doubled. Along with balancing Manhattanville College's budget, Richard Berman also conducted the most significant capital Campaign in the colleges' recent history.
Outside organizations recognized Berman's impressive achievements with Manhattanville College, and foreign groups started associating with the institution. After Richard Berman began his leadership, the school received positive comments from the New York Times; the Fiske Guide; U.S. News & World Report; and the Princeton Review, which ranked it in its Top for 20 Most Diverse Campuses and College Theatres. Further showing his commitment to creating a greater future, Richard Berman’s Frank A. Berman Student Center obtained a “green star” for eco-friendliness from the U.S. Green Building Council.
His accomplishments with Manhattanville College highlight Richard Berman's ability to “turn things around” and develop a better, more fulfilling experience for all. Today, as the Chief Executive Officer, President, and founder of LICAS, Berman seeks ways to enable every child to attend college and strive towards success during their K-12 years. Internationally, he performed as a Consultant for the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UMAMID), and he travels to Rwanda where he aids the National University of Rwanda and guides the country's President on health care matters.
